In a Nutshell
Loss, hurt, shock or terror, “Can’t bear it
any more” (interesting phrase since bears do tend to carry a lot of weight around). We squirrel away a nutshell filled with pain, offer it up to the Gods of mercy and replace it with diffuse numbness. Sensation becomes
complicated by thoughts, all consuming– how to find safety which is often not available. We are alive but dis-spirited.
Spirit evaporates with the severance of connection and support. We cannot thrive estranged
from hope.
We are pack animals. Being in this world we need – no, require – deep connection with Self and Other, be that a bird, God, sister, or a stormy sea. Connection. How is it, where is it in my body ? feel it
smell it taste it hear it see it
There, yes ! there. I sense something other than pain, know this thing intimately. In this moment I can Be, it is safe to be, alive again. |
